Diversification of income - finding additional sources of income for coffee communities is one of the goals of the Coffeelands Foundation. We have found a project in Mexico that is managed by Food4Farmers and is using income from honey and beekeeping to improve their lives. We are happy to be able to materially support the CESMACH coffee cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico as one of our projects for 2016.

Training for current and new beekeepers empowers producers to develop and strengthen an alternative source of nutrition and income for their families.

A honey extractor, smokers and protective gear was purchased with our funding this year. Three communities share one extractor and ideally we will be able to provide another extractor so that producers and processors won't need to haul their equipment around to extract the honey. With over 50 beekeepers and an additional 20 in training the project managed by Food4Farmers is showing success in their mission of implementing sustainable food security programs in coffee growing communities.
